I can have a good cry now? Please?

A response, from Michael (the boy in the cap in the photo with me in my previous post:)

You need to smack yourself.
If you were there for this picture - that first sweepstakes - and the Tennessee trip then you were part of something special, and you were - and are - something special to all of us (even including Bruce Head, but that's just a cross you have to bear). You need to go reread the St. Crispin's Day speech from Henry V (http://www.chronique.com/Library/Knights/crispen.htm ) (or watch the video at http://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechhenryV.html ) because that's how I feel about those of you that I had the privilege of being a member of that band with that year. Through two more years of high school and four years of college band it was never as special (for me at least) because we didn't have the people like you that had worked and struggled and suffered through the bad years (although I still don't believe you marched in red and white checked shirts - come on now) and made the new members like me take it seriously.

I have special memories from those years as well, but we had straight first divisions my junior and senior years and it wasn't the same, we went to Tennessee in 1982 and it wasn't the same, and and we had a red hot college marching band at ETSU from 82-85, and it too wasn't the same (although it was reeaaallly cool). None of us that were part of that year we went to Tennessee will ever forget it, or each other.

So go smack yourself - how could you not think you were special to us?!

Michael
