I was in New Orleans in June of 2004. I attended a trade show at the Convention Center. The one that even now is such a scene of human devastation and despair. I look at those images and it seems as if I've been dropped into an alternate universe. It is unrecognizable to me.
But, that's not what I came here to talk about...I came to talk about the food.
Rarely do you eat so well as you do when you are in New Orleans. Gumbo, Sausage, Red Beans & Dirty Rice. I had dinner at the Commander's Palace and I ate at a modest place called the Light House bar and grill down on Bourbon street, each had their charm and their specialty.
So in honor of NOLA tonight I am having crab cakes with etouffee and garlic aoili, cayenne spiced green beans with andoullie sausage and cole slaw. Some rum and juice splashed on ice to top it off. Only thing missing is bread pudding with warm whiskey sauce.
Long live fine Gulf Cuisine.
