Last night was a first. I came home from dinner and movies with Dr S about 10pm. I took DorkDoggie for our usual long night walk and came home to hand out the good girl treats. I sat on the end of the CHAIR to take off my shoes while she rubbed against the couch and grabbed her ball. Teaching this aged dog how to play has been a bit of a chore. She still hasn't learned to interact with play. She'll play with her toys but not with humans and her toys. She growls protectively over her ball and stuffed toys, but is disappointed when you don't take a toy away from her growling-hovering act and throw it for her. I won't reward agressive posturing so quite often she settles down, disappointed and grumpy. Only later will I pick up a ball or toy and toss it for her. She retrieves it with glee only to posture again, so I stop playing--again.

Last night she ran by me and I tapped her in the butt with my hand. She dashed into the kitchen and back by me, I thumped her again, she turned around and ran back by me, I thumped her again. For fifteen minutes last night we played tag! She raced pell-mell the length of the apartment each time she turned, she'd bump me, I'd tag her and she'd run faster. If it is possible to see joy in a furry face, I saw joy last night. She was the Eliza Doolittle of cocker spaniels. By jove, she got it! And we had such fun together :)

I think that we should celebrate this new found talent and buy something like this?

Today is a milestone. I mean.seriously. a MILESTONE!

Please extend a hearty congratulations to Mr subtlecynic who hits the big Five O*ohmygodIqualifyforAARP today. I hope today involves a lot of celebrations, friends, presents, fine food and libations!

Also celebrating a birthday today is mysticchyna. She keeps us clued into her world through an incredible eye and camera lense. Check out yesterday's pictures from the county fair. Gotta admire a woman who is happy to swing upside down at a carnival with her inner 8 year old!!
