It has been just over a year since I returned and still Nepal has not left me. I understand fully what led Olga Murray to her work now, when others would be putting up there heels and relaxing into retirement.

Her Himalayan guide had warned her about the red mud.

It was 1987, and Olga Murray, then 62 and recently retired from her job as a California Supreme Court research attorney, was in the mountains of Nepal, engrossed in conversation with her trekking companions.

She slipped in the mud and broke her leg. For the next eight days, her porter carried her in a shoulder basket, up and over the mountain, across swaying bridges made of rope.

The accident was the beginning of her new life as a social entrepreneur
