Rock and Roll
Apr. 10th, 2006 08:09 amThe Bay Area seems transfixed by the impending Centenary celebration of the "Great Quake of 1906." I watched late night local news last night. I wanted a glimpse at today's weather before bed. I got the weather and apparently a new feature they've started called "Earthquake Watch." I'm sorry but in the 15 years I've lived here that has NEVER been part of the weather forecast. There have been a few good rumbles down by SLO (San Luis Osbispo) or as we like to refer to the area "the great not much;" but, nothing unusual or out of the ordinary. I really wonder if people expect a repeat of April 18, 1906 as Mother Earth's way of saying "Happy Anniversary?"
Given the fact that our ability to 'predict' earthquakes in 2006 is no better than it was in 1906, I find adding it to the weather forecast ludicrous.
Anyway, the San Francisco Chronicle is running a series on the Great Quake. If you're bored (like me) take a gander. Some of it is interesting from a historical perspective.
As for me, I'm at work today. I feel a bit zombie-ish just yet, but there has been a drastic reduction in the amount of pain I feel and so I count that as a good thing! Now, if I can just get the others around me well, life can get back to some semblance of normal!
I need more coffee and some inspiration because right now, I'm feeling pur-ty dull!
