Want to Donate? Look out for Scams.

I know I posted about my sister's company taking and matching donations made to the Red Cross. Dan McCollister did the same thing right after 9/11. The Corporate office is in New Jersey and naturally that disaster was close to home for him. He's pledged the same now for Katrina's victims. He's a good man.
However, many are not so good.
THIS article in this morning's San Francisco Chronicle talks about scams already out there fleecing money meant for donations.
This is part of why just before I went to bed last night, I updated my links to list qualified relief agencies. They're not all focused on Katrina but these are organizations who have received my personal dollars time and time again over the years. Humanitarian, medicine, food, and emergency medical relief. You will notice that faith-based organizations are missing from my list. That doesn't mean they mis-spend the money, it simply reflects my choice to put my money elsewhere.
