Feb. 4th, 2009 02:01 pmYou might envy California it's mild, mild winter but we are in dire straits here. Bolinas, California could be completely out of water by April. We're talking 60 days from now. EBMud customers (of which I am one) are being asked to reduce their daily water consumption up to 30% or there will be mandatory restrictions, fines, and more. We need Ark-like rain and we need it now people!
With some relief it seems the National Weather Service is predicting an end to our bucolic weather starting tonight. I have my fingers crossed and my waders on!
Continuing problems plague Oakland's police department. Now their Deputy Police Chief has been put on suspension over sexual harassment.
Thirty-five years ago Patty Hearst was kidnapped in Berkeley.
It was ridiculously expensive, but had a great herbal and medicinal tea counter. After six years Elephant Pharmacy has closed.
One of the celebrated Painted Ladies of Alamo Square, in San Francisco is up for sale.
Speaking of for sale, homes in the bay area have lost over 200 billion dollars in value.
After buying out our gourmet local Willie Wonka-ish factory Sharffen Berger Hershey's is doing what they promised NOT to do. They're closing them down.
The search for names of those who donated for heats up with new ways to see who is for or against the Gay Marriage proposition. I find it funny in a very not-humorous way, that the same organization who threatened to out Corporations who donated money to fight Prop 8 are now screaming in the courts not to have the lists of companies and individuals who donated in support of the Proposition made public. Can we say paranoid shrieks of a shrinking demographic?
Arrests are made in a Richmond, CA beating that is now classified as a hate crime even after the report of that beating sat ignored for several days.
And to end on a nice note some local rock n roll hot spots.
