Since I only got about 2 hours of sleep Monday night my batteries died about oh...10pm last night. I learned something important: don't fall asleep when sitting in a tantra chair, you fall off. Fortunately it's low to the floor and I didn't fall very far, but it was a bit of a surprise. So, I staggered outside with the dork dog and let her do her late night walk and then I staggered into bed. I was sound asleep before 11pm. I slept all night long in spite of dreams about jury duty and George W. Bush.

Now I am a bear of very little brain, especially first thing in the morning with no caffeine in my system, but I'm still astonished at the weirdness my little brain is capable of. As I was getting dressed this morning my 'inner voice' was rather loudly belting out:
This land is your land!
This land is my land!
From California
To the mumble, um, smroff, blah blah
From da dum de dum dum
To the Gulf stream...islands?
THIS LAND BELONGS TO YOU AND ME!

Quite obviously I do NOT remember the lyrics to Woody Guthrie's American anthem. This did not stop my inner voice from INSISTING on repeating it over and over again trying to FIND the words. I took dork doggie for her morning walk and tried to tell my inner voice that Karaoke was over for the morning and just put a sock in it.

Does this happen to anyone else? No? Just me then. I was afraid of that.

Later I stood on the corner waiting for my bus. The inner voice was now muttering and humming under its breath in a sulk. I stood gazing up MLK when I noticed police lights flashing. Now Police on MLK are a common sight. The police and Fire headquarters are about 6 blocks north of me. There were no sirens but the lights came closer down to my section of MLK. To my surprise it seemed that a double stack trailer of new cars was getting a police escort through Berkeley. That seemed to me an odd thing. The truck was not speeding or driving erratic. There was a patrol car in front and a patrol car in back clearly escorting this semi with its double stack of cars. THEN I saw the smoke. Either the trailer or one of the new cars was on fire. Sure enough, here comes engine 7 and they pull to a halt a block from me. From the smell I'd say the smoke was coming from the brakes. The truck halted. The driver got out. He had his cell phone with him and was talking on it, to the cops, and to the firemen as they inspected the back of the trailer. He was carrying Hondas and Berkeley Honda is only a few blocks away on Shattuck. Pretty soon the cops turned the lights off, the fire engine drove off and the truck turned to head up to the dealership.

Standing next to me was an elderly black man. One of our mumbling local homeless who is always a bit 'off'. He was wearing a denim shirt which said:

Fire Cause Analysis.

THIS LAND IS MY LAND
