Late in life, F. Scott Fitzgerald asked for one of his own books at a Los Angeles bookshop and was told by a clerk, "Sorry, we don't stock him anymore." Then the proprietor piped up. "I thought he was dead."
San Francisco poet Gerald Nicosia told this story Saturday as he introduced the fifth annual "Writers Remembered," a celebration of authors who died the previous year.
