...

3am the dork dog manages to rouse me from my sleep and I stagger into shoes and a fleece jacket. I clip her leash to her harness and stagger out the door. Not 10 steps from the door the leash comes undone. Feel the slack Dottie SHOOTS down the drive way at a full run.

FUCK!

So did I and the chase began.

This is not easy at 3am when you're half asleep and I definitely did NOT appreciate the adrenaline jolt. I also didn't appreciate straining both ankles and my right wrist a block and a half later when I caught up to her.

It's a good thing I don't believe in corporal punishment for animals. I wanted to kick her ass all the way home. As it was, her harness provided a nice handle (even though I had her leash in hand I wasn't going to attempt that a second time.) I half walked, half dragged and wholly scolded her all the way home. Any neighbor who happened to be awake must have thought I was insane. Once in the door she dived under the kitchen table and didn't move. I went back to bed and it was easily after 4am before I calmed down enough to fall back to sleep.

This morning at 6:30 our morning walk was a vision of proper behavior. I've put the fear of god into that dork dog, until doggie alzheimers takes over once again and she returns to the usual dorky, brainless-blonde doggie she always is.

Right now, though...she's sooooooooooooooooooooo grounded.
