To meet the needs of its ever-growing legion of fanatics, Peet's Coffee & Tea is moving its coffee roasting plant from Emeryville to a sprawling building in Alameda that will churn out the coveted dark beans 24 hours a day.
The new, $29 million plant, which opens Wednesday on Bay Farm Island near the Oakland International Airport, will allow Peet's to eventually double its output. And the gourmet coffee purveyor is the latest high-end food business moving to the island city.
